Everyone, meet Jamie!

So you might have already heard / read that In Merry Motion is now officially a team of 3! We have an intern! The newest merry elf of the block is Jamie, and she’s truly an asset to the team.

Having Jamie on our team has helped In Merry Motion to grow in many ways; she is constantly improving and creating new crafting systems for us, and she has a pair of awesome nimble crafty hands!! She hand sewed felt clouds, and folded the giant origami swans that are hanging at the Rockstar’s shopfront (on top of many other craft items). I know, we’re jealous (of her hands) too.

We still find it a little strange that we’re employers now. If you had asked us when we first started if we’d ever hire help, the answer would be a resounding Huh, us, employers, WHUT? Can we even manage anyone else other than ourselves? We’re very very thankful for all the help that we have received from our family and friends from the early days of In Merry Motion. (Thank you Lord for all these amazing people you have placed in our lives!) Having an intern (Jamie) actually came as a very spontaneous decision; it’s like we were suddenly ready.

We’re so thankful for our newest elf!! Having Jamie around has helped us to grow as people, as mentors, and as crafters. We now have to set an example, we’re forced to improve our working structure, and we are forced to think ahead. As an elf, Jamie is motivated, and she’s really fast with her hands. She truly is a good and powerful weapon, hehe.

One Day Without Shoes!

As huge fans of TOMS, we are super excited to be part of One Day Without Shoes (ODWS) organised by Rockstar by Soon Lee. For those not familiar with the awesome concept behind TOMS - for every pair of TOMS footwear that you purchase, they give a pair to a child in need. One for one! With shoes, these children can protect their feet from cuts and infections, and go to school! Tomorrow, the both of us at In Merry Motion will be going barefoot as advocates of this wonderful movement. One for one, how lovely!

TOMS go a long long way!

Lots of ODWS festivities at Rockstar (Orchard 22) tomorrow! There’s going to be a Style Your Sole workshop byMessyMsxi for your new/old TOMS, materials all fully provided by the wonderful rockstars at Rockstar. We’re decking the workshop space out with buntings and we’re bringing lemonade. There’s going to be cupcakes and burgers as well. SHIOK. See you there tomorrow, barefoot! :)

Marcus & Hsin are full of win!

We started 2013 with one of the most generous couple that we know. They’re none other than Marcus & Hsin, and they’re truly so full of win! It was an absolute breeze designing and working with them because they are so easy-going and they are very open to ideas. Their absolute trust & faith in us and our proposed design direction - we feel so undeserving and so unworthy but we’re so thankful to God for placing such an amazing couple in our merry path. Whoooo!

Preparation and crafting for any celebration is always labour intensive and full of anticipation. We are always excited to visit the venues; it’s like a giant canvas, except with a truckload of restrictions and we are excited to work around, haha.

And finally, the day of set up!!!

Too happy, too honoured. This will go down In Merry Motion history as one of the best days ever! :)

A Merry Mess!

We are usually ~~neat~~ organised but sometimes when crafting is in full swing, we sometimes let the mess and our mountains of tools / materials get the better of us. (Dear family, if you guys are reading this, we are deeply sorry! Thanks for being so understanding!)

For the happy union of Marcus & Hsin, crafting was exceptionally enjoyable! The colours, the embellishments, the flowers - they really made our days and nights merry and bright!

At this point, we would like to thank Auntie Eunice, Rams dearest, nimble-fingers-Melda, full-of-initiative Geri, and sweet Weijie for being ever so willing and ready. As always, we cannot thank you all enough.

Weapons of Choice 01: Measurement Tools

So this V-day, we decided that it will be a great time to give credit to all our merry & selfless pals and tools that make up our great support system behind In Merry Motion. This is a start to the series called Weapons of Choice (name is self explanatory), for us to celebrate the hearts and articulation behind every person and instrument.

Through the good times and the bad, while scaling pillars and feeling a tad scared, our trusty measuring tape and raffia string are what Lindsay Lohan was referring to when she sang “You’re it, you’re the ultimate.” We (almost) never leave home without them.

Our pretty peranakan-y duo in bandung pink and kueh dadar green makes quite the perfect combination. We cannot imagine not having them around during our fieldtrips as we take measurements. They mark the start as we start dreaming up spaces and places.

On hindsight, they pretty much remind us of our own working chemistry; we’re complements in every way. Joyce the dependable measuring tape, stretched across walls with much finesse and precision. A master of her craft with a treasury of insights! Weiyan the raffia string with endless possibilities, strung across spaces, wrapped around columns, and weaving through gaps as she finds solutions / opportunities in tight situations.

We’re really blessed to be working daily in merry motion (verb) and to be tools for His glory and purpose. :)

And so, while spring cleaning in merry motion, we came across the cute waffle-print cones we made for Marcus & Hsin which we used to contain the bunches of handmade paper/fabric flowers to line the aisle.

We decided to have a little fun with them. Here are the cuteys Weijie & Wei’an working the cones -

This February, we’re happy to present to you awesome doiley hearts on a string paired with a really quirky card. Think of someone whom you cannot live without: your BFFFF whom you’re so thankful has free incoming calls so that you can ramble on and on, for your soulmate, your parents, even your favourite changi village hokkien mee stall uncle. Tell them why you both make a good pair, and show your love as these hearts flap in the wind over door frames, on trees and even on their store front.

A Merry December I

Is it just us or is time flying by really quickly? It feels like only yesterday when we were bent over mixing bowls trying to whip up the perfect fortune cookie recipe. We’re no experts in the kitchen and it was our first major attempt at being crafty behind the stove. At this point, we would like to publicly declare our gratefulness to Ah Yee, Auntie Eunice, and Rams for being our mentors and great help in the kitchen. Without them, we would never have been able to deliver the AWESOME & super yummy (if we say so ourselves) fortune cookies. Big thanks and big love to you 3 God-sents!

And with much pride, we present to you the merriest christmas jars with a local twist of awesome witty fortune cookies for the good folks at Tate Anzur -

We also spent an evening at The Public Domain, an awesome co-working space for Saught’s Christmas Party to sell some merry christmas knick knacks, and we were so blessed to preview the launch of their new collection. REALLY SUPER SWEE!

20% of the sales that night went to Ling Kwang Home, a nursing home in Serangoon Gardens that is rather close to our hearts. Every day in merry motion to us is a blessing and we strive to continue to spread the good cheer. :) We’re really late but - MERRIEST MOST BLESSED 2013 all you good people. <3

Presenting.. 3D Pop-up clouds for all you dreamers out there! Fall asleep and wake up to clouds above you, hang them in your workspace for a bit of cloudy goodness, and put them up in your home as you live and dream together.

MADE TO ORDER
No two 3D Pop-up Clouds are the same! Every cloud is lovingly handcrafted, stitched, and is accompanied by a hanging line for easy set up.

As these clouds cannot fit into regular mail packages, we aren’t able to offer any post services this time. Instead, we will be doing MEET-UPs every Friday evening at 7.30pm / Saturday morning at 11am at the control station of both Bishan MRT & City Hall MRT.

F.A.Q

How do we hang up our clouds?
We mounted our clouds with basic 3M command strips, as easy as that! We can put together a little set up kit if you guys like, let us know what you think. :)

What kind of paper is it?
The paper that we use is a 275gsm textured paper with a very slight crater-like surface (we’re still trying to get a decent picture, and its name from our suppliers.) We will update this space and replace our layman description with something more accurate. Thanks for being so patient! :)

We are always at the mercy of our printers and sometimes, it never goes as planned. All you have to do is to keep calm, grab your pen-knife, and right the wrong. No printing alignment fault will get us down.

This post is a whole month late but better late than never! :) Our last merriment of the year 2012 was the very blessed union of Russell & Ruth. THEY’RE SO LOVELY, and they had one of the sweetest exchange of vows, our lips were severely quivering by the end of it and our cheeks were wet with tears we couldn’t blink back. A God-centred union, a beautiful union. *waves flag*

How God blesses us and shows us His awesomeness & faithfulness in EVERY. SINGLE. PROJECT - our finite minds cannot comprehend and our human hearts so overwhelmed. We’re just so thankful to have opportunities to bring that little bit of beauty with our craft and love to any celebration. Thank you for choosing us, believing in us, and trusting in us, dearest Russell & Ruth. <3

& it’s a wrap! Our very first flea / offline shop was quite an eye-opener. It’s really tiring to prepare, set up, take down a stall over 2 days but we’re very very thankful for all the love and support from our family, friends and fans (gasp! we actually have fans, thank you Lord!) We’re working on bringing all these items online for you guys. Till then!

HELLO THERE (again), hehe. We’ve been trying to keep this exciting new project / experiment under wraps and we’re not particularly great at keeping (exciting) secrets so we’re so so thrilled to finally be launching this.

In Merry Motion x 1 year!

Today’s the first day of our second year In Merry Motion - what a year the past 12 months have been! Late nights of crafting and brainstorming that carried on into the nights, the new friendships made with beautiful couples, cutest babies and amazing vendors, and lastly, knowing that God was in absolute control throughout this entire journey so far.

At this point, we’d like to thank our wonderful families for being the best support system. For tirelessly waiting for us as we stayed up to finish up work, for selflessly volunteering to help with deliveries, set up-s and tear down-s, for sweetly praying for us and cheering us on in our first year of merry-making. What would we do without all of you?

To our beauttttiful pals as well - thank you for being such awesome In Merry Motion ambassadors and for spreading our name far and wide. It’s because of the words that you guys speak that have blessed us infinitely. Bless you all!

And lastly, all praise to our heavenly Father who is paving this merry way for us and holding our hands the entire way. Glory glory glory in the highest! Here’s to many more merry years! *confetti*
