Brandon & Shiao wed In Merry Motion!

So for the past 2 months, we were very excitedly designing and crafting the wonderful marriage of Brandon & Shiao at the beautiful Food For Thought (Singapore Botanic Gardens). It has been such an amazing journey for us, spiritually & professionally and even though it has been 5 days since the wedding, we’re still giddy with merriment. :) Brandon & Shiao share a really beautiful love deeply rooted in Christ and they are such an inspiration and a blessing to everyone around them (us included).

Enjoy the pictures!

Our belated #monday-merriment features our current eye-candy which happens to be a work from the milan design fair 2012. Designer Craig Alun Smith had planned to splatter the city with bird poopy in every colour of the rainbow by planting dyed bird feeders around the Piazza del Duomo. How exciting!

The LuvOwls are made of seeds, suet and food colouring, moulded into the shape of owls because statues of the birds of prey are often used to scare off smaller foul. They come in come in red, green and blue, and the British/Canadian designer hopes birds will eat from more than one of the feeders to mix the colours in their stomachs.

What a clever & earth-friendly way to colour the town RAINBOW! We would love to see more pictures of colourful bird poopy in Milan. Can the awesome Mr. Smith please bring it to Singapore? :)

While this morning’s perfect rainy sleep-in weather made it difficult for us to leave our beds, we are so glad we did! And so for a good part of the morning, we were very privileged to get to interact and learn from Justin Hill, an architect, stage designer, and also one of the founding directors of Theatreworks Singapore. It was very inspiring listening to Justin share with us his process, concepts and methods of designing the original stage for Lear Dreaming back in 1997 as well as his ideas and struggles with the upcoming Lear Dreaming production for Singapore Arts Festival 2012.

After which, it was our turn to take a stab at stage designing- very x10000 exciting! The two of us chose to work on conceptualising possible seating structures for the gamelan musicians. (See pictures above!)

Such a great way to kick off our weekend! One month of great activities lined up - 3 cheers for Singapore Arts Festival 2012

P.S. In Merry Motion has her/our own instagram account! Follow us @inmerrymotion :)

Not seen in picture are our screens that have pages of timelines, checklists, to-buy lists and to-craft lists. We are totes gearing up for something really exciting in May. Preparation is no easy feat and our fingers are itching to start crafting right nowwwww!

Also, good things must share- here’s our latest favourite mouth candy: jollibean’s soy pudding! (Gotta thank Wilson & Winnie for spreading this awesome laoban beating soya dessert joy to us.)

At the risk of sounding too geeky- In Merry Motion was finally able to use the “milestone” function on facebook! We have been featured, for the very first time! April then & April now.

It’s going to be a crazy month for us here at In Merry Motion… which kind of brings us back to April / May in 2011 when we were still in school, rushing to deliver our final year project. For Joyce, it has become a suppressed memory and we both still shudder at the sheer memory of camping in school with greasy hair and a heavy heart.

We kid you not. (Also, please note our friends Xinnie and Ruai’s very studious faces in the mess of our studio.)

April 2011 was also the month when the idea of starting our own celebration design studio was hatched.

It was on April 9th 2011, also the day hundred of thousands of Singaporeans R.S.V.P-ed on facebook to go to Holland Village in singlets, shorts and slippers. At this point I would like to add that it was very empty that morning and even though we did not wear singlets, Joyce and I did our part by wearing shorts and slippers. How disappointing! But ok, yes, it turned out to be a blessing for we could easily get a table to enjoy breakfast together… we broached the topic of weddings, (both our elder sisters were getting married that year) and one thing led to another and suddenly we were gripping the table in excitement - “YES! LET’S DESIGN CELEBRATIONS!” And that was the start of this pretty much life changing decision.

This April marks 6 merry months in In Merry Motion and we are going to get even busier in the coming month. God has been sooooo gracious and amazing! We foresee even more exhausting days and late nights coming right up but our hearts are far from heavy! We are all pumped up and deeply excited! It really does make a world of a difference when you get to choose what exactly you are losing sleep over.

& ending this rather sentimental entry is a picture of the two of us in the first year of our course:
